A valiant effort to redirect our misguided city council, came close.
I reviewed the precinct results and a very interesting pattern occurred.
Looking for precincts that strongly opposed (more than 60 percent) the ban, so for one reason or another think retail subsidies are ok, or...well I'm having a tough time understanding why...
There is a crescent formed by the precinct locations, with some exception, notably the 51st St and Lamar/Airport area....(maybe they want the Airport subsidies to go through?)
The Crescent starts in North Austin right around the Domain Mall (Breaker and Burnett) circles around the Arboretum area, and continues down Mopac, mostly west of Mopac, through the old money part of town and continues hopping over Rollingwood (maybe they don't vote) and down to Southwest Parkway....
I thought this is really interesting .... and would like to hear from others, why this pattern may exist, and how to deal with it in the future. I really expected opposition from East Austin, but that was not it. I've never been to the Domain, maybe these people have, and really like it. ? Thoughts?
